The creative treatment of reality...
Hvad har Michael Noer, Mads Mathiesen og Omar Shargawi til fælles? Det samme som "R", Dennis og Ma Salama Jamil.
Giv dine karakter, en række ubearbejdede dilemmaer, tænd for kameraet og be dem bearbejde dem undervejs...
Sørg for at de ikke er uddannede skuespillere. Og se dem freake ud i grænselandet mellem fiktion og dokumentar hvor deres egen følelsesmæssige udvikling, bliver en del af filmens plot.
De vokser og modnes for øjnene af os og identifikation og forståelse af deres følelsesmæssige dilemmaer opleves ufiltreret og nærværende.
I Go Get Rosemary, følger vi en kaotisk og til tider usympatisk far, der har svært ved at sætte egne behov til side, i samværet med sine børn. Men på mærkværdig vis, mærker man hans kærlighed og frustration over at tingene udvikler sig som de gør, og man ender med, ikke at være i tvivl om at manden elsker sine børn, og på sin vis også rummer mere varme og spontanitet end børnenes mor.

Super16
Super 16 har lige haft premiere på deres afgangsfilm 2010 i Dagmar, i år har ArtCast castet på 2 af filmene. Thorshammer af Fenar Ahmed og AuPair af Lasse Lindsten.
Begge film fik fine anmeldelser, men i år må al ros gå til Ask Hasselbalchs film, Vildyr som suverænt udkonkurrerede samtlige film.
Den var overlegent produceret, som var det en disney film, med glamour lyssætning, og et score som matchede Home Alone... Men filmens handling parret med bizar production gav filmen en underfundig og sær blanding af sad bizarness.

Fitness DK - For Lækker
Here's a little ad we cast for recently for Fitness DK. Fitness DK makes you so hot you gotta wash yourself with a fish to prevent the onlsaught of horny women. Well, it makes for funny viewing.

Next up this award season is Michael Noer and Tobias Lindholm's 'R', which has just won two awards at the Gothenburg; the Dragon Prize for best Nordic film as well as the FIPRESCI Award from the International Federations of Film Critics. Topping it off was a nomination in Rotterdam for the VPRO Tiger Awards competition. This is what DFI has to say about it:
"This hard-hitting drama, an anthropological study of life in a Danish prison, portrays R who has been sentenced to prison for violence. He's insistent on staying out of harm's way and in doing so he is faced with the challenge of navigating through prison culture with its notions of honour, hidden agendas and contracts."
Michael is one of our favourites at ArtCast so we're really pleased for all his successes. Here's the trailer. Tuff.

Megaheavy
Oh Ive not been a very good blogger recently and I have no excuses but Im back now with some great news about some of the movies ArtCast has cast for. We'll start with Megaheavy, a film about Jolly, a 14 year old introvert teenage girl who is in love with her classmate Kenneth. But one day her world is turned upside down when the neighbor's son arrives to the island to bury his father. Megaheavy has won Best Short Fiction at the Roberts Film Awards, the annual prize show from the Danish Film Academy. Check the trailer below:

Beck & Charlotte Gainsboug - 'Heaven Can Wait'
Becks latest video is a montage of absurd and unrelated scenes apparently lifted by the director from found images on the internet. Which is brilliant except I can't really make sense of it and whilst that might be the point I find it irritating because maybe it's trying a little hard to be weird for its own sake. But I guess because it really is so weird and fun to watch then that makes it ok... Argh. I can't make my mind up.
Emily Valentine uses dead animals for her art.
They are perplexing and fascinating, beautiful and outrageous. Emily Valentine uses roadkill, dead pets and feathers from a pest bird, the Indian Mynah Bird, to mythological creatures, hybrid animals or chimeras, that I only wish exist. Though flying dogs would probably be a nightmarish reality.
She says, "In my work I wish to discuss how attitudes to wearing animals and birds parts have changed. Is this just because of fashion, or has society become more caring of animals? I wish to stimulate the viewer with the uncomfortable nature of the feather, to question our callousness treatment of animals and birds, and ask how we sub-consciously classify animals – pet or pest, valued or worthless, beautiful or plain and why."
