Beck & Charlotte Gainsboug - 'Heaven Can Wait'

Becks latest video is a montage of absurd and unrelated scenes apparently lifted by the director from found images on the internet. Which is brilliant except I can't really make sense of it and whilst that might be the point I find it irritating because maybe it's trying a little hard to be weird for its own sake. But I guess because it really is so weird and fun to watch then that makes it ok... Argh. I can't make my mind up.

Emily Valentine uses dead animals for her art.

They are perplexing and fascinating, beautiful and outrageous. Emily Valentine uses roadkill, dead pets and feathers from a pest bird, the Indian Mynah Bird, to mythological creatures, hybrid animals or chimeras, that I only wish exist. Though flying dogs would probably be a nightmarish reality.

She says, "In my work I wish to discuss how attitudes to wearing animals and birds parts have changed. Is this just because of fashion, or has society become more caring of animals? I wish to stimulate the viewer with the uncomfortable nature of the feather, to question our callousness treatment of animals and birds, and ask how we sub-consciously classify animals – pet or pest, valued or worthless, beautiful or plain and why."

For the ladies.

This dating video is a real treat for all those lonely ladies this winter. Why bother going to your local slum bar to find that special someone to curl up next to when you can select one from this fine dating video. Some real fine male specimens.

Mads Matthiesen

ArtCast has been casting for Mads since 2005 and his short film 'MUM'. Mads' films move in the space between reality and fiction, amateurs and actors; the arena where everyday dramas unfold. His characters tend to be vulnerable, struggling to navigate the particular circumstances of their relationships. Our casting has accordingly attempted to ensure that the characters strike the right emotional chords; that they remain both sympathetic and intriguing.
Here's a couple of other films he has made.

'Cathrine' - A 16 year old falls in love with a 33 year old man she met in a shopping center, much to her parents displeasure. 'Cathrine' Won a Robert for Best Short Film in 2009

'Dennis' - A lonely bodybuilder, who at an age of 40 still lives at home with his dominating mother. The film revolves around Dennis' struggle for freedom. 'Dennis' was selected for the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.

Mads and artCast are currently working on a secret project. As things develop we'll let you in on it. But you'll have to wait. For now.

A beautiful video created by WeWereMonkeys for Land of Talk. It's mysterious, calming, romantic and sad. A seasonal audio/visual treat.

Pixelator

S Trains are now fitted with the most invasive of advertising platforms; tv screens. They weren't running when I was on them but I still stared up at the nearest one wondering whether it would flicker to life and lick my retina with its incandescent radiation. That's the thing about tv's they grab your attention regardless of whether you want them too. They arrest the present moment, holding you captive until at the last moment possible you struggle free and back to plain old everyday life. It's a sad moment in Danish transport history that DSB customers are now paying to be subject to even more advertising.
The video is of what is called a pixelator; a honeycombed structure designed to abstract the information on the screen and render it unintelligible. The screens then operate as abstract video art or aesthetic and atmospheric light pieces. Brilliant.

Where the Wild Things Are

Spike Jonze's film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" is generating tons of hype. It's probably deserved; the trailers look incredible. Good ol' Spike.

Exactitudes

"You know I love Copenhagen and everything except that everyone fucken looks like each other!" (spoken by every foreigner I meet)
Really? Sure, those Norse caps got REALLY old and every other boy is wearing denim shirts and tucked in jeans whilst riding fixies. Fact is no matter where you live in the world, we're gonna wanna look like each other. Uniforms are here to stay.
I've not seen a better attempt at cataloging this than the project 'Exactitudes' by Dutch photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek. As they put it, they were "inspired by a shared interest in the striking dress codes of various social groups, [and] have systematically documented numerous identities over the last 14 years."

ONLY - Denimize the World

All the young and beautiful people in this Ad for clothing company ONLY were provided courtesy of ArtCast. I've never been to a party like this, I probably never will. I hope they don't exist because being left out just hurts so much. Ah, there's more to life than being beautiful, but it looks like you have more fun if you are.

CPH:DOX YouTube Battle

The CPH:DOX YouTube battle was held in Pumpehuset before a raucous and ruthless crowd who boo'ed as much as they cheered. Some unemployed dude from Northern Jylland won out ahead of the celebrity teams, which isn't much of a surprise as finding YouTube gems requires hours of dedication. Here's what Politiken had to say about it.

I didn't take my camera so no pics of the event. Instead, here's one of my YouTube favourites.

Animal Hair by Nagi Noda

I don't understand why girls in Copenhagen like to walk around with dead animals around their necks. There are better ways to accessorise with animals. Like this. Japanese Nagi Noda makes animal hair sculptures that are made out of human hair. Not half as gross and much cooler.

Her website is mad slow. Go here to see a bunch of pics that actually loads.

Tjek vores hjemmeside www.artcast.dk
